About the Program
The Department of Sociology and the Department of Philosophy offer a double undergraduate Sociology & Philosophy undergraduate program. This dual major program develops analytical and critical thinking skills, oral and written communication skills, and interdisciplinary understanding.
Philosophy seeks to answer fundamental questions about human existence, values, and reality, while sociology applies scientific methods to understand how broader social forces influence our thoughts, beliefs, and behavior.
Focus of Study
The program prepares students for careers in law, medicine, management, education, government, writing, computer science, psychology, sociology, and ministry while offering a range of courses covering contemporary issues and field experience opportunities.
Program Requirements
Philosophy Major
- Requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of PHIL work and a minimum of 18 credit hours of upper-division (3000+ level) PHIL coursework.
- All PHIL courses must have a grade of “C” or better.
Sociology Major
- The Sociology major requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of SOC work and a minimum of 18 credit hours of upper-division (3000+ level) SOC courses.
- All SOC courses must have a grade of “C” or better.
*NOTE 1: SOC 3150 and 3070 should be completed prior to the senior year and must be taken at UCCS.
