About the Program
Students in the dual degree program need only take 25 credits in Criminal Justice and 34 credits in Sociology (instead of 39 and 37 credits, respectively) to complete the major requirements for both degrees. Standard LAS/SPA college general education and Compass curriculum courses are also required for the degrees. The Dual Degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice is available in both the face-to-face and online formats.
Focus of Study
The dual degree program in Sociology and Criminal Justice is designed to make it easier for students to complete degrees in these two majors (in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and School of Public Affairs, respectively).
Program Requirements for Admission
Criminal Justice Major (28 hours)
- The Criminal Justice major requires a minimum of 25 credit hours of CJ course work, 3 hours of PAD course work, and a minimum of 18 credit hours of upper division (3000+ level) CJ/PAD course work.
- All CJ courses must have a grade of “C” or better.
Sociology Major (34 hours)
- The Sociology major requires a minimum of 34 credit hours of SOC work and a minimum of 18 credit hours of upper-division (3000+ level SOC course work.)
- All SOC courses must have a grade of “C” or better.
NOTE: SOC 3150 and 3170 should be completed prior to the senior year and must be taken at UCCS.
